MAGILL SUBSTATION

Retaining wall strengthening using GFRP bar in the live substation, Adelaide, South Australia.

Project Overview

Magill Substation is a electrical sub-station located in Adelaide that required its retaining wall to be strengthened with grouted GFRP bar installed due to its low resistivity near the transformers.

Geovert Solution

Due to the close proximity of the transformers drilling had to be undertaken to minimise vibration and dust, so augers were used to bore the 150mm holes once the coring was completed in the reinforced concrete walls.

The 6m long GRFP bars were installed, grouted and tested by Geovert with the project completed safely without interruption to the substation or its operations.
